I worked 12 years in a place where I grew professionally. I met a ton of people. Hundreds of people in the workplace and several thousand more in conferences. Over the 12 years of working at the company, I interacted with at least 10,000 people. I attended somewhere around 110 conferences and tradeshows. It was a dream job. Travelling, hanging out, experiencing the best that chefs have to offer, the perfect work hours, my sister and family travelled with me, friends came along. I take nothing away or add to those years. I worked each year as if it was my last, maximizing the benefits. I don’t regret anything. It was one of the best moments in my life.
I have never faulted anyone, not even the pandemic. In October of 2020, I was laid off. I remained unemployed for 7 months. I received the call on a Wednesday, as many of my workers did that day. After I hung up, I immediately went to WideOpenMissions.org and hoped I could use the time to travel. Since countries’ borders were closing, I could not find a place to travel. I called my family and informed them. On that Wednesday, I went to church and taught in my weekly class. I didn’t say anything other than God is amazing. I was filled with excitement of what God would do in this moment of not working.
In my season of unemployment, I created the course God Revealed and finalized the book The Value of Me. The course has over 300 students enrolled. I completed many other tasks that I was only able to complete with not having a 9-5 job. It was great. The unemployment was one of the best moments in my life. I would not have proactively taken a hiatus from work to study Biblical truths, write, and record teachings. I am glad that season of unemployment happened.
My value was not in a position, salary, or accomplishments. My value is in how God sees me. I was blessed to be at the company at the time which God ordained me to be there. I had fun. The book the Value of Me is a study of how God values you. God does not value what you accomplish but you as an individual. My prayer is that when people read the book and study along with the book, they become encouraged and appreciate God more through any circumstance.
