Get Rid of the Luggage

Feeling tired? Weighted down? Struggling to get through the day without exhausting yourself? Well, you are probably carrying more than you were designed to carry.

We come to God with luggage containing rejection, hurt, past failures, pain, shame, guilt, anxiety, last year’s problems, foolishness, and next year’s concern. Sometimes we carry other peoples’ luggage. We have to leave it at God’s feet and just embrace Him with open arms. Give Him the luggage and leave it there, with Him. If it takes an hour in prayer giving it to God, take the time to release it to Him. Everything else can wait. We need just a time of embracing our Father. Get close to Him. Remove the luggage from your arms and wrap your arms around Him. Get closer to Him. Let there be nothing between you and God. So close to Him you can feel the warmth. You can hear Him whisper “I love you, my child”. So close you can hear His heart beat.

God gave His son as a sacrifice for us so we can give Him a sacrifice of what we hold so dear to us. The problems we are constantly trying to figure out how to solve. The pain we are trying to soothe. The disappointment we have carried for so many years. We can lay them all at the feet of Jesus.

Great crowds came to him, bringing the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.

Matthew 15:30 NIV

Remove the extra luggage and pray to God. Say: I give you all that I am. I give you my attitude, behavior, reaction, response, desires, will, passion, motives, intentions, purpose, existence, being, body, mind and heart. I give it all to you. I empty myself of everything. I make room for You. I prepare myself for You to do what You will. Find in me a place where you can rest, abide and move. I set aside distractions, unmet expectations, challenges, problems, issues, emotions, worries, and cares. I first make room for You. To hear You, to feel You, to experience You. Fill me, Holy Spirit. Overflow in me.
