A Different Approach

In reading Ecclesiastes, I realized the author was in search of true happiness in life, just like all of us. He writes this book giving us examples of how we are searching, what we looking for, the woes of life, and how we try to make sense of this life. But in the end, in Ecclesiastes 12:13 he notes:

Here is my final conclusion: fear God and obey his commandments, for this is the entire duty of man.

This can be rephrased as “do life with God”. The author mentioned in prior chapters that he tried educating himself, drinking, and pursing good works. He saw that the basic motive for success was envy and jealousy. He saw those who were loners work hard for success, which was pointless and depressing, since there was no one to partake in their success. Also noted, just because you have wealth doesn’t mean you have health. But, doing life with God brings to us wisdom, knowledge, and joy. There is less searching for who we are. There is less worrying and distress. There is more contentment, patience, and internal happiness.  Also, people are attracted to people who are happy.

Honor God now, don’t wait to live life in him, try your best everyday to do life with him. Allow God’s desires to become your desires. Reassure yourself of his truth/his word by spending time with him.
